As the last hour of 2024 ticks by, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the growth this year has brought, as well as the cherished memories with loved ones.

Highlights include:

- Having the courage to apply to more opportunities than I've ever done before.
This led to my first art residency with @thecityofabbotsford, two solo art exhibitions with @cityofpoco and @pdacoquitlam, participating in a group show with @langleyartscouncil and the Landscape competition, and winning a design contest for @fortlangleyjazzfest

- learning how to make sourdough bread thanks to @carmalarm giving me some of her starter

- now have 68 linocut birds for my Avifauna, to-scale bird print series

- having @philprajoux 's French cousins come stay with us for a visit. It was absolutely amazing to see them after 8 years, and getting to meet their kids

- passing my French B1 exam! This was the last thing I needed to start the application process to become a French citizen! I still have a bunch of paperwork to do but it's in the works!

- raising two kittens from the age of two weeks. The sleepless nights were well worth it seeing my Mom have nightly snuggles with the them. They are her cats now, but I will always be their surrogate meowther

- various linocut demonstrations

- paricipated in a live painting auction thanks to @embermuninnart

- starting @funnyfriendsart with my bff. This is an art project to create silly and fun artwork intended to make people smile and celebrate lasting friendship. We have an exhibit/art residency in March that I'll share more about soon.

- going to Revelstoke to celebrate our friends marriage! Congratulations again @gmackenzie11 and @aeheeps

- fabricated a gate with hinges on my own and welded a repair job on my Dad's excavator

- completing my first metal sculpture and starting my second. This has been a dream of mine for a while and I've finally made time to pursue it.

I have so much more to say but it's almost midnight so I'll leave it here.

Cheers to everyone who made 2024 a wonderful year and Happy New Year!!!

If I don't finish a painting when I start it, I often get distracted with another project and the painting gets forgotten about, sometimes forever.

That's what happened to this piece until tonight! I don't even remember when I started it. It might have been for a painting demo over a year, or possibly two years ago? Who knows, not me.

I took the reference photo for this painting at the beginning of 2022 because it felt like the perfect representation for the exhaustion of the Covid pandemic, but I never got around to painting it. I see now it was waiting to be painted, when global unrest feels like it's an an all time high and many of us feel hopeless, confused, and scared.

While painting this piece I felt all of those emotions, like every brush stroke was wrong and leading no where. I pushed through that discomfort, and all of a sudden I took a step back and saw that, infact, my work made sense.

This too shall pass. We will get through.

Monoprinting with stencils was my last art engagement with the City of Abbotsford! It was an absolute joy to watch participants let go of their inner critic and enjoy creating for no reason other than to explore something new!

It's hard to believe that 5 months and 16 art engagements have gone by in what seems like the blink of an eye.

A huge thank you to @thecityofabbotsford @abbotsfordprc @abbyyouth for hosting these events, and all the lovely staff that helped me set up and run these art engagements.

I will be reflecting on what I've learned and how I've grown over the past five months and may be quiet on socials while I consider what my next steps are.

Thank you to everyone who has been following my work over the years. I appreciate every single one of you!! I especially appreciate those who take the time to write encouraging words in the comments, send DMs, and every single person who has ever bought my artwork.

Who would have guessed...more birds, different medium.

Finished framing these little original watercolour paintings to go to @pdacoquitlam at the end of the month for their "Positively Petite" annual miniature exhibition.

I've wanted to apply for this show for years and always seem to miss the deadline, but not this year! These works are 3x3" and 4x4" in size.

I'm looking forward to seeing all the different mediums of teeny tiny artwork.

Today's mono printing workshop gave participants the time to explore with a new art medium and found nature. Everyone went outside and found their own foliage and then had a good time exploring with acrylic paint, hello plates, brayers, and most importantly, an open mind. Thank you to all the participants, @abbotsfordprc, and @thecityofabbotsford for hosting this event.

This piece measures 82" inches wide x 36" high and I would not have been able to print or frame it without the support of @philprajoux!

It's been a few months and I have to say, printing in the summer is challenging!

Ink dries quicker and it's hot and sweaty. That being said, it felt great to get back to printing after a few months of working on other projects.

I am excited to share that I'll be exhibiting Avifauna again in Sept.- Nov. with @pdacoquitlam with over 60 birds!!

I'll also be at the @chilliwackfair this Saturday and Sunday doing art demos and selling my artwork.

Words cannot express the joy I felt today installing my first fabrication project with my Dad this morning!

I am so grateful for my education at @ufvwelding @ufvtrades last year thanks to @bccwitt and @skilledtradesbc!!

I may not be taking the traditional route of apprenticeship to becoming a red sealed welder, but I am still a welder!!

This "man" gate was designed and built for my parents to match the large gate they had installed earlier this year. Seeing this project finished is a huge milestone and I just wish I had more time in the day to work on more projects!!

I also hope it helps keep the coyotes out of the yard but I think they'll find a way.

Second time, success!

Boy oh boy...I had this idea for a reel to share what I'll be working on during the "pop-up studio" times of my art residency but it did not end up nearly as smooth as I imagined...hahaha oh well. I tried.

I'll be painting three Abbotsford Heritage buildings over the next couple months. You can drop by and say hi, watch me paint, and if you feel like it, try putting some paint on the canvas yourself!

This Thursday, June 20th, 12-2pm, I'll be at Matsqui Recreation Centre
3106 Clearbrook Rd in the lobby.

First Abbotsford A-I-R art engagement in the books! This stamp-a-card activity was held at the ARC(Abbotsford recreation centre) during Senior's Day Luncheon.

It was a wonderful way for people to create a personalized art card to reconnect with a friend or loved one and the feedback was all positive! So much so, I'll be hosting this activity again and it will be open to all ages and abilities. Participants will be able to choose from 4 hand- carved and stamped Abbotsford inspired landscapes, and get to choose from a number of hand carved stamps to add their own personal touch. They can then colour their cards, and write a letter.

Sadly I didn't get any footage of people stamping their cards because I was too focused on engaging with participants! I would say that's a good problem to have though.

First Abbotsford A-I-R art engagement in the books! This stamp-a-card activity was held at the ARC(Abbotsford recreation centre) during Senior's Day Luncheon.

It was a wonderful way for people to create a personalized art card to reconnect with a friend or loved one and the feedback was all positive! So much so, I'll be hosting this activity again and it will be open to all ages and abilities. Participants will be able to choose from 4 hand- carved and stamped Abbotsford inspired landscapes, and get to choose from a number of hand carved stamps to add their own personal touch. They can then colour their cards, and write a letter.
